Occlusal Splint Therapy Concept and Construction – Plano

Teaching Methods Used: This course is conducted as a LIVE lecture and hands-on program
Commercial Co-Sponsor Support: There is NOT a commercial co-sponsor for this program

Course Description Content Summary:  This continuing dental education program is designed to instruct and educate the dental practitioner regarding the basic concepts of occlusal splint therapy construction for patients who have muscular issues in the temporormandibular joint area and to potentially treat selective types of temporomandibular disease patients (TMD). The didactic portion of the program will investigate and delineate the diagnostic procedures related to TMD patients and the various types of adult patients who may or may not benefit from a customized occlusal splint in the treatment of extracapsular muscle TMD conditions. The laboratory portion of the program will detail the specific design and construction of a posterior flat-plane occlusal splint. Practitioners will utilize articulators and mounted models of various TMD patients to demonstrate how a properly made flat-plane occlusal splint is constructed. After the laboratory session, several clinical cases will then be presented to help the participant compare and contrast occlusal splint therapy treatment effectiveness.
